Book launch at Dogears Bookstore Goa, In conversation with Rinald D’ Souza 11 May 2024
Post-independence India’s most controversial artist, Francis Newton Souza challenged the aesthetic and moral sensibilities of the human social order. The uneasy space in his art “troubled social comfort by its transgression of taboos”
For a wider discussion of her work, join us for a conversation with Janeita Singh, *on Saturday, 11th May, at 5pm at The Dogears Bookshop*. Janeita will be in conversation with Rinald D’Souza, who, apart from his current research, reads on South Asian art history, and recently co-edited a book on The Jesuits, Goa and the Arts.

*MOG SUNDAYS*
This is a conversation between Author & Critic Janeita Singh and Art Historian & Curator Lina Vincent on the book, the illustrated monograph,
FN Souza: The Archetypal Artist
Niyogi Books Tultul Niyogi
based on a 12-year research project, that began in 2012. The magnetism of the primordial imagery in Souza’s art “hooked me” says Janeita Singh.
“Janeita brings together fascinating threads of philosophical, religious and artistic practices in her essays that let us slowly soak in the multiple layers of Souza’s art”. She is an academician turned literary-art critic. Her writing based on the belief, ‘critic as an artist’ generates new perspectives of ways of seeing.
Lina Vincent is an independent art historian & curator. Since 2009, the focus areas of her research have extended to projects with arts education, printmaking history and practice, the documentation of living traditions and folk arts in India, and environmental consciousness in the arts.

What a delight !!!

Smithsonian Nation museum of Asian Art
Washington DC besides being ceremonial and stately is a museum haven. I could stay here for months and go to a museum every morning and be glad for it 😊
The Smithsonian Institution, the largest museum complex in the world comprises 21 museums, education and research centers. 11 of these are on the National Mall, the National Museum of Asian Art being one of them.
Met up with my book at The Met 😊
Savoured thought-provoking exhibitions by May Ray and John Wilson and devoured the sculptures by Jeffrey Gibson ( Facade). Running out of time, but couldn’t leave without visiting the sculpture gallery, sculpted masterpieces of the classical period at the museum and those exquisite forms from India.
FN Souza; The Archetypal Artist at Frankfurt Book Fair 16-20 Oct 2024
University of Pennsylvania
The nation’s (the US) first university is home to my book. Housed at the UPenn libraries flanked by swaying tall trees, dappled sunlight and splendid architecture, got my heart beating to a metronome
Delighted to meet the wonderful faculty; the talk at the South Asian Centre was interactive and expansive. The support, kindness and interest made my years of research and writing seem sooooo worthwhile!!!
Columbia University …..Book at Butler Library
At the Library of Congress, Washington DC,
the golden gilded corridor leading to the Asian Library is open exclusively to members of the Congress & Researchers of the Asian Library 😊😘
While the members meeting room is spectacular, the Asian library is a beautiful haven combining dazzling architecture, the ornate embellishments and rich collection of books, rare books and manuscripts.
A great rendezvous with the Archetypal Artist in the splendid setting
